Circuit Solar Cell Regulator

It is advisable to install the regulator near the battery, it is necessary that there are minimal drop in tension on the cable between the regulator and the battery, so that it can correctly measure the battery voltage and act accordingly. Suggested cable 2.5mm2 section, and not more than 2 m long, with strong connections, and if possible with a fuse of a 6th at the end that goes to the battery positive cable. The cable to the panel can be longer, with this limited influence on the functioning of the system.

Fin Assembly does not internal, or thermal, electrical connection so that it can be mounted on any surface without greater precautions. The mounting holes are screws up to 5 mm in diameter. The dissipation of heat (only 3W worst-case) is carried out through the two positive terminals to wires.

Suggested use eyelet terminals to the wires, and securing them with pressure washers. Connection bolts are M4.

IMPORTANT: when installing the regulator, connect the battery first, then the panel. To disassemble it, first disconnect panel, and disconnect the battery in the end. If this sequence is reversed, the regulator is working at the limit of what it can support, because the total voltage of the panel (more than 20V) will appear internally and in the Terminal output. You should stand, but it is best not to challenge fate...

Operation

While the solar panel will not produce current, the regulating sleep. In this situation there is no energy consumption, and the regulator through an internal diode prevents the battery is exhausted through the panel.

When the panel starts to generate, first lights light status of the regulator. This light lit already with the first electrons arriving much before that panel generates enough voltage to start charging the battery. The intensity of the light can give an idea of the tension that is being generated.

While the battery is not fully charged, the regulator lets the entire production of the panel on drums, except a portion of 0. 01A it needs for its operation (especially for the famous lucesita, which stays on).

When battery arrives near its maximum load, the indicator light becomes intermittent: turn on and turn off depending on whether the regulator connect or disconnect panel. Each off period lasts approximately three seconds, while lit periods range from less than a tenth of a second, to infinity. The proportion of on time indicates the proportion of the generation of the panel which is handing over to the battery.

Note: If the light is very short flashes, with pauses for 3 seconds, it means that the battery does not accept cargo. I.e. could be fully charged, bad, or disconnected.

Functionality

Solar panel regulator operates in a very simple way: basically applies a short Panel solar, fixed duration of 3 seconds, every time that it detects that the battery reached 14.0V. After each short circuit, it allows the panel to regenerate, restarting the cycle. While there is no short circuit, the panel is connected to the battery, through a diode. Although it may be counterintuitive, a solar panel reach better life in short, open circuit.

The controller includes automatic switch in which activates it when there is generation.
